NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
January 30, 2016
As we head into the weekend schedule in the NBA, there are lots of trade rumors floating around out there as usual. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the current situations and speculations from across the league as we inch closer to the trade deadline.
Down in New Orleans, there are plenty of trade rumors surrounding just about the entire roster. The latest player to get caught up in the talk is Tyreke Evans.
According to reports, other teams have been making offers for Evans, and the Pelicans have been listening.
That being said, don’t expect anyone to pry Evans away from New Orleans without a big-time offer. He’s under contract for $10.2 million next year, and seems to have ingrained himself as a key player in the Pelicans scheme.
New Orleans brass keep saying they’re in an instant-upgrade mode, so nothing will happen if they don’t get a stellar offer with a solid player and/or draft picks. We don’t see Evans going anywhere.

Over in Atlanta, Jeff Teague has a few people talking, as he’s getting a notable amount of interest. The New York Knicks are reportedly among the teams who would like to acquire his services, but unless Phil Jackson can pull a proverbial rabbit out of his hat (the Knicks don’t have much to offer), that deal won’t go anywhere.
Still, Teague is a player to watch; he could potentially be on the move. The Jazz have been mentioned as a possible destination.
You might have heard the Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell’s name tossed about in possible trade scenarios, and even though it would have seemed very unlikely earlier this year, he’s getting a lot more chatter these days.
It’s taken Russell a little time to get acclimated stats-wise, and he’s had some minor clashes with the Lakers coaching staff. Some of this could be the result of Los Angeles trying to drive up the price of a potential Russell trade, or they could be serious about moving the youngster.
We’d imagine Russell will remain in Los Angeles after the deadline, but acknowledge the fact that anything can happen with the Lakers in this lost season.
L.A. has been mentioned in conversations regarding another player, the Heat’s Hassan Whiteside. He’ll be a free agent after this season, and it’s likely Miami wouldn’t be able to afford to keep him around with the big-money contracts they’ve got tied up through next year.
So, Whiteside turns into a possible value trade for a team needing some help under the basket.
In addition to the Lakers, we’re also looking at the Celtics, Rockets, and Pelicans among possible landing spots for Whiteside. The question at this point will be which team is offering to give up the most to get him on what’s essentially a cheap rental.
