NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 10, 2016
We’ve got a huge NBA schedule coming up tonight, so what better way to celebrate than to check out some of the notable trade rumors out there from around the league? The chatter out there is really starting to pick up, as we’ve only got a few days left until the deadline. Here are a few players everyone is talking about right now.
Let’s kick things off down in Dallas, where rumors are swirling that the Mavericks are looking to add a little beef to their backcourt before the deadline.
Two of Dallas’ potential targets are rumored to be Kevin Martin of Minnesota and Joe Johnson of the Nets. These two are veteran players who could be desperate to get out of their current losing situations.
With Dirk Nowitzki counting down into his final year or two, the Mavericks are trying to help him out with notable players. They’ve got some issues when it comes to filling out the roster, however, so a big trade could be in store to help shore things up.

The Orlando Magic have made some waves in the rumor mill recently with their reported desire to trade Tobias Harris.
Harris seems to be the most likely guy to move among a stable of solid young Magic players. The one hurdle the team has to overcome, however, is the fact that they just re-signed him last off-season (he’s on a four-year deal worth $64 million).
The East is (obviously) pretty weak, and a strong run at the end of the season could get Orlando into postseason contention. If they do indeed move Harris (or one of their other young players), they’ll be a team to watch down the stretch.
Now it’s time for our obligatory Rudy Gay news, as the Sacramento Kings continue their slow, painful slide from a promising team to the NBA basement.
Trading Gay isn’t necessarily a slam-dunk sure-thing, but it would make sense with the team in fire sale mode and other franchises already kicking the tires and making calls. One team that’s reportedly been showing interest is the Heat, which would be a good destination for Gay to excel. Miami would likely have to surrender some young talent to make that deal happen, but it would definitely improve their chances in the playoffs.
There have also been some rumors concerning Gay going to the Celtics. They’ve been dangling Marcus Smart and Jae Crowder out there to any potentially interested teams, so we could see some sort of a deal involving those three guys. Gay would provide Boston with some much-needed experience as they roll toward the playoffs.
Blake Griffin trade rumors are always fun, so let’s throw out a couple more scenarios involving him.
The Clippers reportedly aren’t sold on getting rid of Griffin just yet, but if the right deal comes along they may be tempted to pull the trigger (especially with Griffin’s latest antics in mind).
Suffice to say, any deal involving Griffin would have to be an outright blockbuster, so it’s all just talk at this point. We’ve heard pipe-dream rumors about a deal with the Knicks for Carmelo Anthony, the Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns or Andrew Wiggins (and a draft pick), or the Magic for a sampling of their glut of talented youngsters. It's fun to talk about, but not likely at this point.
