NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 14, 2016
The meaningful games in the NBA are shut down for the moment, which makes this weekend a perfect time to talk about the various trade rumors out there right now. That said, let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players who could be involved in deals this week as the deadline gets closer.
Any Knicks fans hoping the team would dump Carmelo Anthony in favor of a younger piece or two for the future can pretty much count that scenario out.
Anthony shot down any potential trade rumors with some comments this weekend, reiterating that he’s not going anywhere. He would have veto power over any deal due to the no-trade clause in his contract.
On Friday, the Knicks and Cavaliers reportedly batted around the idea of a package involving Kevin Love for Anthony, but that reportedly didn’t get too far off the ground.
The Knicks have lost 10 of their last 11 games and have played themselves out of playoff contention for now. We’d imagine they won’t be doing a whole lot at the trade deadline, save for a minor deal or two.

Another big-name star who appears to be out of the running for a potential trade is the Rockets’ Dwight Howard. Late last week the rumors were flying about how Houston was shopping the wisecracking big man, but rumblings from front offices around the league seem to dictate that any Howard deal is not likely to happen.
The Howard trade talks have been classified as “exploratory,” so unless another team turns the heat up over the next couple of days we’d say he’s staying put. That said, there have been indications that basically the entire roster--save James Harden--is up for grabs in a potential deal, so don’t count the Rockets out just yet. They obviously need a roster shakeup with the way they’ve been playing lately.
Initially, it had been reported that the Nets’ Brook Lopez was off limits for any potential trade, but it appears the Brooklyn brass has changed their tune lately.
Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov had previously said that Lopez and Thaddeus Young were the only players who were untouchable, but it appears Lopez is now available.
That makes sense: Lopez is a good player, but he’s better suited to a support role behind a major star or two.
So where might Lopez end up? The Heat would make sense, as the presence of Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade would serve to enhance Lopez’s game. The Lakers have also been mentioned; it would give Lopez a chance to shine ahead of a cast of youngsters and some guy named Kobe.
The Bucks and Bulls could also come into the picture here as well; there’s really no shortage of potential scenarios and solid fits for Lopez.
The Nets have also been connected with Paul Millsap down in Atlanta. He and Al Horford have made rumor news recently as the most likely players to be moved from the Hawks.
Horford could very well go to the Celtics; he would fit in pretty well there and they’ve got some assets they could tempt Atlanta with.
