NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 17, 2016
We’ve got just one more day before the NBA trade deadline, and the rumors are flying at high speed right now. Let’s take a closer look at some of the notable headlines out there and see what we can make of the possible deals which could occur in the next day.
Last year, we had a pretty quiet buildup to the trade deadline before things went absolutely bonkers over the final 45 minutes or so. Most pundits are speculating that this year will be a lot quieter, and that’s mostly due to the salary cap jump we’ll see this off-season, and the ensuing free-agent frenzy that will follow.
Whether or not tomorrow turns into an epically crazy trade day remains to be seen. It’s all going to depend on how desperate those proverbial “playoff bubble” teams get, and how much they think that extra guy is going to impact their postseason run.

We’ll start out with a trade that’s actually happened already. The Pistons traded Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova to the Magic yesterday for Tobias Harris.
This fills a need for the Pistons, as they had been searching for a stretch-4 guy to play with Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson. It should make them a better team.
Now let’s get into some of the actual rumors. The Clippers’ Blake Griffin has dominated trade talk over the past several days, and that’s not quitting anytime soon.
At first, L.A. was listening to offers, then they weren’t, and now they are again. It’s been a odd bit of posturing from a team that doesn’t seem to know for sure if they want to pull the trigger on Griffin and his recently acquired bad-boy reputation.
The waffling can likely be attributed to the Clippers’ questions on whether they’ve got a realistic shot at landing free-agent-to-be Kevin Durant. If they do believe they’re in the running, a Griffin trade becomes more likely before tomorrow.
That said, L.A. could also benefit by waiting until the summer to deal with Griffin, which will give them sign-and-trade options in the Durant sweepstakes. They’re also going to have to get a Herculean offer if they’re going to part ways with B.G.
The Suns’ Markieff Morris has been at the center of trade conversations since almost the beginning of the year. He’s definitely on the trade block, but Phoenix is asking for quite a bit in return for the disgruntled star.
According to reports, the Suns want a package deal, specifically a young player along with a first-round draft pick. Teams have apparently come to the table with the first-round pick in tow, but it hasn’t been enough.
The Hawks have been blanketed with trade rumors for quite some time, many of them centered around Al Horford.
There seems to be plenty of interest from other teams here, but Atlanta won’t pull the trigger without the right deal on the table. It’s not crazy to think they’ll stick with the roster they’ve got for now and reshape things after the summer.
After all, it may seem like ages ago, but this Atlanta team did make it to the conference finals just last year.
