The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers do battle on Thursday at the Staples Center.
The Cavaliers haven't exactly been playing right at their best just yet, but they've been playing well enough to keep their place atop the Eastern Conference standings. LeBron James has picked up his overall production lately and is averaging 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game in his last five games, while Kyrie Irving is averaging 23.6 points and 5.8 assists but the Cavs won't quite be at their best until Kevin Love finds his spot in the offense because he has averaged just 12.3 points over his last five games while shooting just 27.5 percent from the field.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are supposed to be tanking to improve their chances in the upcoming lottery, but they've won three of their last five games and will be aiming for a third straight win after beating the Magic by 107-98 on Tuesday. D'Angelo Russell has been on fire lately and led the way with 27 points, Jordan Clarkson added 24 points while Julius Randle had 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Lakers dominated the second half by 62-47 to take down the Magic and improve to 14-51 on the season overall.
In ATS trends, the Cavs are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five road games and 6-17-2 ATS in their last 25 games against a team with a losing record, while the Lakers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record.
There is absolutely no reason why the Cavs shouldn't roll into town and just cruise to a double-digit win, but the Lakers' recent form has me thinking that they can actually stay around and make this game competitive. Take LA at home to stay hot and make this one interesting.
