The Los Angeles Clippers and the Portland Trailblazers collide in Game 4 tonight at the Moda Center.
The Clippers were gunning for a commanding 3-0 series lead on Saturday but they just couldn't get it done as they lost to the Trailblazers by 96-88 in Game 3. Chris Paul had a nice outing of 26 points with nine assists while Jamal Crawford added 19 points off the bench, but the Clippers desperately needed one other player to step up, especially in the second half. Blake Griffin shot just five of 16 for his 12 points while JJ Redick disappointingly finished with just five points after scoring 17 points each in the first two games of the series which really hurt the Clippers who shot just 40.9 percent from the field and three of 18 from the 3-point line. Add to that the fact that the Clippers connected on just 13 of 23 free-throw attempts and I'm actually a little surprised that the Clippers were able to remain so competitive throughout the game.

Meanwhile, the Trailblazers didn't exactly have a hot shooting night themselves but all they wanted to do was stay in the competition with a hard-fought win at home and they achieved that on Saturday. Damian Lillard led from the front with 32 points on 10 of 20 shooting while CJ McCollum added 27 points as the Blazers shot 42.5 percent from the field and six of 25 from the 3-point line. The real difference between the teams especially late in the game was the rebounding and the Blazers won the battle of the boards by 56-44 thanks to a big night from Mason Plumlee who scored just six points but contributed in a big way by grabbing a postseason-high 21 rebounds while dishing out nine assists.
In ATS trends, the Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall, while the Blazers are 6-19-2 ATS in their last 27 Conference Quarterfinals games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the over is 13-5-2 in the last 20 meetings in Portland.
The Clippers will be bitterly disappointed that they let Game 3 slip from them as they actually led by 85-84 with 2:36 left in the fourth quarter before the Blazers took over, so they'll be looking to bounce back tonight. The Blazers showed plenty of fight to escape with a win in Game 3 but I like the Clippers to make some minor adjustments and come away with the win to improve to 3-1 in the series.
