The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks battle in Game 3 at the Philips Arena on Friday night.
The Cavaliers will be full of confidence now following their dominant 123-98 win over the Hawks in Game 2 on Wednesday. LeBron James led hte scoring with 27 points while Kyrie Irving added 19 points with six assists, but the spark plug for the Cavs was actually JR Smith who drained seven 3-pointers en route to 23 points. In fact, the Cavs drained 18 threes in the first half and finished an amazing 25 for 45 from the three-point line for the game. The Cavs really couldn't be more pleased with that outcome because it really sent a strong message to the Hawks that they just weren't good enough to hang with them.
USA TODAY Sports
Speaking of the Hawks, Paul Millsap had a double-double of 16 points with 11 rebounds while Jeff Teague added 14 points with six assists but it was never going to be enough against the Cavs who just couldn't miss a shot from behind the arc. Al Horford had just 10 points while Dennis Schroder had just five points after pouring in 27 points in the series opener but this was just one of those games that they were never going to win. You could just see it on the faces of the Hawks players and their overall body language looked so defeated as the threes kept raining down.
In ATS trends, the Cavs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Friday games, while the Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the Cavs are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings overall but the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
This is a must-win game for the Hawks if they want to gain any foothold in this series but I just don't see that happening after what I saw from the Cavs in the first games. The Hawks will put up a better fight in front of their home fans but the Cavs will pull away late and take a commanding 3-0 series lead when it's all said and done.
