The Atlanta Dream and San Antonio Stars open the 2016 regular season Saturday night at the AT&T Center.
The Atlanta Dream hope for a bounce back season after missing the playoffs for just the second time in franchise history. It’s not as the Dream don’t have talent, as Angel McCoughtry is one of the more underrated players in the league, while Tiffany Hayes and Sancho Lyttle are double-digit scorers in their own right. The Atlanta Dream just need to find overall depth in order to compete in the East, and that starts with Damiris Dantas and Matee Ajavon taking on larger roles and contributing more. The Dream won six of their last nine regular season games, so there’s clearly enough talent on this roster to return to the playoffs.

The San Antonio Stars can do nothing but improve after winning just eight games last season. The Stars still have their 1-2 punch with Kayla McBride and Sophia Young-Malcolm to lead the way, but it’s all about depth that will determine how much San Antonio can improve this season. Danielle Robinson should continue to be the All-Star player she has been and a full season of Alex Montgomery should help as well. The San Antonio Stars just need to find scoring outside of their top-two players, as the offense was very hard to come by last year. The good news for the San Antonio Stars is that seven of their last eight wins last season came on their home court.
The Dream were as inconsistent as a team can get last season, so it's tough for me to trust them on the road with a decent sized number. The Stars are healthy and have to be eager to get off to a good start with the way things played out last season. At home, the Stars should be able to put up a fight and possibly even win this game outright if a few outside shots fall.
I'll take San Antonio and the points.
