Venezuela and China play Wednesday in their third match of the men’s basketball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Venezuela is desperate for a victory after a rough 0-2 start to these olympics. In the 69-113 loss to the United States, Venezuela shot 34.4 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc. Venezuela allowed 54.5 percent shooting from the field and 40.9 percent shooting from deep. John Cox led the way with 19 points and one assist while Gregory Echenique had 18 points and seven rebounds. Gregory Vargas was the third double-digit scorer and David Cubillan had three assists. Venezuela is now 1-6 all-time in the olympics and would love nothing more to get at least one victory before being sent home. Venezuela must be better on the defensive end in order to get a victory.

China could also use a big victory after a 0-2 start to these olympics. In the 88-60 loss to France, China shot 38 percent from the field and 21 percent from beyond the arc. Venezuela allowed 60 percent shooting from the field and 46 percent shooting from deep. Yi Jianlian led the way with 19 points and six rebounds while Wang Zhelin had 11 points and one steal. Guo Ailun had four assists and Zhao Jiwei had two steals. China started the tournament with two of the more talented teams in its group and has shown it’s years away from seriously competing in these events. However, China does play hard and could push for a victory if it's able to hit some shots from the outside.
China is just outmatched against most teams in this tournament and that's probably the case against Venezuela as well. Venezuela has some guys who can fill it up on the offensive end and was able to hang with the United States for about 20 minutes. China just doesn't have the athletes or the playmakers to beleive it can turn things around.
Give me Venezuela to get the much needed victory.
