Brazil and Croatia play Thursday in their third match of the men’s basketball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Brazil looks for another victory after getting off to a 1-1 start in these olympics. In the 66-65 win over Spain, Brazil shot 38.3 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from beyond the arc. Brazil allowed 36.5 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent shooting from deep. Marcelo Huertas led the way with 11 points and seven assists while Marcus Marquinhos had 10 points and one assist. Nene had five assists and Augusto Lima had 10 rebounds. Brazil is now 8-8 in its last three olympic appearances and is fresh off an emotional victory over Spain that came down to the last shot. It’s going to be interesting to see how Brazil handles such a victory, especially with the pressure of being the hoist team.

Croatia look for a bounce back performance after a shaky 1-1 start in this tournament. In the 82-90 loss to Argentina, Croatia shot 42.9 percent from the field and 29 percent from beyond the arc. Croatia allowed 44.3 percent shooting from the field and 37.5 percent shooting from deep. Dario Šarić led the way with 19 points and seven assists while Mario Hezonja had 16 points and three rebounds. Bojan Bogdanović was the third double-digit scorer and Krunoslav Simon had six assists. Croatia should be confident after playing solid basketball against two quality teams in Spain and Argentina. However, Croatia needs to win games like this one if it hopes to put itself in a position to compete for a medal.
Croatia has really looked sharp in its first two games and could easily be 2-0 against quality clubs. Meanwhile, Brazil barely beat Spain and it was mainly off poor execution down the line and missed free throws. Croatia has shown a lot more consistent play and has to be the pick here.
Give me Croatia in a tight one.
