Lithuania and Argentina play Thursday in their third match of the men’s basketball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Lithuania looks to build on their impressive 2-0 start to the tournament. In the 89-80 victory over Nigeria, Lithuania shot 49.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. Lithuania allowed 47.7 percent shooting from the field and 43.5 percent shooting from deep. Mantas Kalnietis led the way with 21 points and 12 assists while Jonas Mačiulis had 21 points and four assists. Renaldas Seibutis was the third double-digit scorer and Jonas Valančiūnas had five rebounds. Lithuania has scored a combined 191 points and made 17 threes in its first two games. Lithuania will continue to be in good shape as long as that offense continues, as there’s not a lot of clubs in this tournament that can contribute on that level.

Argentina looks to keep rolling after a solid 2-0 start to this tournament. In the 90-82 win over Croatia, Argentina shot 44.3 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. Argentina allowed 42.9 percent shooting from the field and 29 percent shooting from deep. Luis Scola led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds while Facundo Campazzo had 10 points and eight assists. Manu Ginóbili was the third double-digit scorer and Andrés Nocioni had five rebounds. Argentina has easily been the most consistent team in group B and has a real shot to win its first medal since 2008. As long as the offense continues to show balance, Argentina is a very scary team.
Both of these clubs are off to hot starts and look to improve to 3-0 in the tournament. However, Argentina has a little more depth on the offensive end and has also been more consistent on the defensive end. I also have more confidence in Argentina in tighter contests due to the overall experience.
Great game that could come down to the wire, but Argentina should win.
