Spain and Argentina meet Monday in their fifth match of the men’s basketball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Spain looks for yet another victory to improve its current seeding. In the 109-59 victory over Lithuania, Spain shot 57.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. Spain allowed 40 percent shooting from the field and 26.1 percent shooting from deep. Pau Gasol led the way with 23 points and five assists while Nikola Mirotić had 17 points and four rebounds. Rudy Fernández was the third double-digit scorer and Juan Carlos Navarro dished five assists. Spain is starting to look more and more like the Spain team we’re used to seeing, and it’ll be in great shape if it can make 16 threes again. With Gasol and others making shots, Spain is a team few want to see in the quarterfinals.

Argentina has a chance to win group B by getting another victory here. In the 111-107 victory over Brazil, Argentina shot 45.6 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from beyond the arc. Argentina allowed 45.8 percent shooting from the field and 34.6 percent shooting from deep. Facundo Campazzo led the way with 33 points and 11 assists while Andrés Nocioni had 37 points and 11 rebounds. Luis Scola was the third double-digit scorer and Manu Ginobili dished four assists. Argentina showed just how dangerous it can be, as it made 17 threes and had two 30-point scorers in the win over the home team. Argentina has scored 90 or more points in three of its four games and has to like its chances to snag a third olympic medal.
This should be a hell of a game between two clubs with good NBA talent and solid history. Either one of these teams could push USA and even win a medal. However, Argentina has been far more consistent and has the more reliable outside shooting to win this contest. Spain has been shaky all tournament.
Great game, but Argentina should win it.
