The Indiana Pacers and New Orleans Pelicans square off Tuesday for preseason action at the Smoothie King Center.
The Indiana Pacers begin the Nate McMillan era, and they’re one of the many teams thinking playoffs in the Eastern Conference. The Papers have a talented team led by Paul george and Monta Ellis, but folks in Indiana believe the additions of Thaddeus Young and Jeff Teague held put them in the dark horse contender slot. Of course, being able to take that next step involves finding key bench players, and the preseason will provide chances for guys like Joe Young, Rakeem Christmas, Glenn Robinson III and Georges Niang. The Indiana Pacers have a lot of intriguing pieces to make some noise in the East this season, but some of the bench players need to prove they can step up and take pressure off the stars when they leave the court.

The New Orleans Pelicans already played a preseason game, which was a 116-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. In the victory, E'Twaun Moore led the way with 19 points and four rebounds while Terrence Jones had 17 points and three assists off the bench. Anthony Davis scored 13 points in 12 minutes and Tim Frazier dished nine assists. The New Orleans Pelicans have to be pleased with their first contest considering they shot 57.1 percent from the field and made 12 threes. Remember, coach Alvin Gentry was brought to New Orleans to improve the offense and get the Pelicans playing more like Golden State. While it’s only preseason, the Pelicans played extremely well in the first game and should be excited if that’s an indication of things to come.
The Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games. The Pacers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The under is 4-1 in Pacers last 5 road games and the over is 44-19 in Pelicans last 63 home games.
The Pelicans showed against Dallas that their youth and shotmaking makes them a dangerous team in the preseason. New Orleans doesn't have a player over 30 years old, so they're throwing out several young guys fighting for playing time. Add the fact this game is at home for the Pelicans, and the small line seems like the good play here.
