The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns clash Wednesday night in preseason action at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on NBATV.
The Utah Jazz play their second preseason game after losing Monday to the Portland Trail Blazers, 89-98. The Jazz just couldn’t get going offensively, as they shot 41.1 percent from the field and turned the ball over 19 times. Gordon Hayward led Utah with 17 points and three rebounds while Rudy Gobert had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Derrick Favors was the third double-digit scorer for the Jazz and Shelvin Mack dished four assists off the bench. The Utah Jazz played three of their five starters at least 22 minutes and still managed to give 12 players double-digit minutes. You should expect a better performance from the Jazz in this game considering coach Quin Snyder usually has his team well prepared and don’t have the sloppy play they did in the preseason opener.

The Phoenix Suns are fresh off an impressive preseason opening victory over the San Antonio Spurs, 91-86. The Suns held the Spurs to 40 percent shooting and forced a ridiculous 30 turnovers. You know it’s a sloppy game when the Suns are able to win despite shooting just 37.8 percent from the field and making just 3 threes. The bright spots for the Suns were Tyson Chandler producing 10 points and eight rebounds, while Devin Booker scored 19 points in 24 minutes. Archie Goodwin chipped in 10 points off the bench and Alan Williams grabbed seven rebounds in 12 minutes. The Phoenix Suns are supposed to be more of an offensive team, so I’m not sure if they should feel happy they won by playing scrappy defense or if they should be worried the offense crapped the bed. Either way, preseason or not, the Suns will take a win over the San Antonio Spurs.
The Suns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Jazz are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest. The under is 12-5 in Jazz last 17 overall and the under is 11-5 in Suns last 16 overall.
The Suns can't possibly be worse than they did in their victory over the Spurs, and their up-tempo offense and overall youth helps them in preseason games. A lot of these teams playing guys who usually don't see the court struggle to keep up with the pace of Phoenix. Utah also doesn't have a ton of depth and isn't the best scoring team in the league to begin with. So, I'll take the home team as a slight underdog.
