The Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers clash Saturday night for a preseason game at the Quicken Loans Arena on NBATV.
The Philadelphia 76ers are 1-1 in preseason action with their one loss coming in double overtime to the Washington Wizards. The 76ers could easily be unbeaten if they didn’t turn the ball over 22 times in each of the first two contests. Besides that, the 76ers have played very well with 19 made threes and 48 assists. Joel Embiid has shown great promise in 25 minutes of play and Dario Saric has produced 24 points and 10 rebounds. Richaun Holmes has 30 points off the bench and T.J. McConnell has 11 assists. The Philadelphia 76ers are a team to watch in the preseason like I’ve said in the past, as the amount of playing time available gets these younger guys to step up. The 76ers have spots open for guys who play well in exhibition play.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Cavaliers have played just one preseason game, which was a Wednesday victory over the Orlando Magic. In the win, the Cavs shot 53.2 percent from the field, made 13 threes and produced 30 assists. Jordan McRae was the star for Cleveland with 20 points and five assists while Kay Felder had 14 points and four assists. Cory Jefferson grabbed 11 rebounds and LeBron James had six assists in 13 minutes of play. Kyrie irving and Tristan Thompson did not play in the preseason opener. The Cleveland Cavaliers know what their rotation looks like after just winning the NBA Finals, so guys looking for a job are going to get the bulk of the playing time. Rookie Felder is the player to watch, as the 5’9” guard is flashy and plays much bigger than he is.
The 76ers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and the over is 4-0 in 76ers last 4 overall. The Cavaliers are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 2 days rest. The 76ers are 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the under 12-3 in the last 15 meetings.
The 76ers have been a solid team to back in the preseason due to how seriously some of the younger guys are taking it with roster spots on the line. The problem is the Cleveland Cavaliers are easily the better and deeper team and win games like this without really trying. I have to side with the Cavs by double digits against a far less talented Philly squad.
