The San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons meet Monday night in preseason NBA ball at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The San Antonio Spurs improved to 1-1 in preseason action by beating the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. The Spurs did a much better job of taking care of the basketball but still have 43 turnovers in two games. Kawhi Leonard has combined for 31 points and eight rebounds while Davis Bertans has scored 15 points off the bench. Pau Gasol had five points and three assists in his San Antonio debut and Tony Parker has 15 points and three rebounds in 20 minutes of action. The San Antonio Spurs are who they are, as they’re going to give a lot of their backups a ton of playing time and rest their stars whenever possible. It’s all about competing for an NBA championship, so coach Gregg Popovich to going to treat preseason differently than most teams in the NBA.

The Detroit Pistons have just one preseason game under their belt, which was a Thursday loss to the Brooklyn Nets. In the loss, the Pistons turned the ball over 23 times and shot 43.8 percent from the field. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 17 points and 21 rebounds while Marcus Morris had 17 points and six rebounds. Jon Leuer scored 12 points off the bench and Tobia Harris was the third starter to score double-digit points. The Detroit Pistons are a young team on the rise but will be undermanned with Reggie Jackson out with a knee injury. Some of these younger Detroit players have to step up, and that includes the backup guards in Jodie Meeks and Lorenzo Brown. Rumors are that the Pistons are looking at Steve Blake, Norris Cole and Ish Smith as possible additions until Jackson returns.
The Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Pistons are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss and the under is 4-0 in Pistons last 4 Monday games. The over is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings.
The Spurs are tough to back in the preseason simply because you're never sure who is going to play. Pop benches guys when you least expect it and being fresh for the regular season means more to him than a win in preseason. So, considering the Pistons are young and eager to prove themselves, I'll take Detroit and the small line at home.
