The Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards play a preseason NBA game Thursday night at the Verizon Center.
The Philadelphia 76ers look for a bounce back game after a 1-3 start to the preseason and will play their third straight road game. The 76ers are coming off a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in which they shot just 38.3 percent from the field and turned the ball over 23 times. Joel Embiid has combined for 25 points and nine rebounds in his last two games while Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is coming off a game in which he had 13 points on 10 shots. T.J. McConnell has racked up 15 assists in his last two games and Gerald Henderson has 16 points in his last 29 minutes. The Philadelphia 76ers are just trying to find their way with a a bunch of new players and an overall underwhelming roster. The 76ers will take any positives out of exhibition play and run with it.
USA TODAY Sports
The Washington Wizards are 1-2 in preseason play and will enjoy their second true home game. The Wizards are coming off a Monday loss to the New York Knicks in which they shot 43.9 percent from the field and had 21 turnovers. The good news for Washington is that John Wall took the court for the first time, racking up eight points and four assists in 16 minutes. Bradley Beal has produced 26 points and three assists in his last two games and Marcin Gortat has 35 points and 15 rebounds in three preseason games. The Washington Wizards need their backcourt to produce at a high level in order to have success this season, but they also need to find some depth to take pressure off of Wall and Beal. This is the type of game for the Wizards to have a breakout performance.
The 76ers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and the over is 4-0 in 76ers last 4 overall. The Wizards are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and the over is 4-1 in Wizards last 5 home games. The 76ers are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Washington and the over is 17-8 in the last 25 meetings in Washington.
I'm not big on taking the line here due to both of these teams being so up and down. Instead, I'm going to side with the under given the lack of scoring and playmakers on either side. After all, the 76ers shot well below 40 percent from the field in their last game. This should be a low scoring game.
