The Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers do battle at the Moda Center on opening night in a NBA matchup.
The Utah Jazz will be looking to build on last season’s 38-44 season record and it starts by getting healthy and back on the court and it all starts with Gordon Hayward who is dealing with a left finger injury which could hold him out until late November. Dante Exum showed signs of growth in the preseason and could see time at the shooting guard position thanks to his length and defensive ability, but he will probably spend most of the season as the backup point guard as the Utah Jazz will likely give plenty of minutes to new acquisitions George Hill and Joe Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers will be looking to surprise once again after finishing last season with an impressive 48-44 overall record which earned them the fifth seed in the Western Conference. The Portland Trail Blazers will continue to lean heavily on their backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum but the offseason acquisition of Evan Turner could alleviate some of the pressure on the offensive end. It would be somewhat of a surprise if the Portland Trail Blazers are able to recapture that fourth overall seed in the Western Conference given their lack of depth, but don’t sleep on the Portland Trail Blazers.
In ATS trends, the Jazz are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven following a loss, while the Blazers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four against the NBA Southwest.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall and 13-3 in the last 16 meetings in Portland.
The Trailblazers were 4-2 in the preseason before running into the Warriors and two of those wins came against the Jazz, so I'm rolling with Portland to kick off their season with a solid win at home behind a big game from Lillard.
