The Portland Trailblazers travel to the Pepsi Center to battle the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night.
The Trailblazers were instrumental in their win over the Jazz on opening night, but that winning feeling didn't last too long as they fell to the Clippers by 114-106 on Thursday night. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 29 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out late in the game, Maurice Harkless contributed 23 points while Mason Plumlee added 17 points but it wasn't quite enough as the Blazers who rely heavily on threes, connected on just four of 18 attempts from behind the arc. Defensively, the Blazers did a fine job of holding the Clippers to just 40 percent shooting from the field, but they just couldn't find their offense in the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 32-24.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets kicked off their season with a hard-fought 107-102 win over the Pelicans on Wednesday. Jusuf Nurkic led the team with 23 points and nine rebounds on nine of 13 shooting, Will Barton added 22 points while Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 15 points as the Nuggets survived a historic night from Anthony Davis who poured in a ridiculous 50 points to go along with 16 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and four blocks. Attempting to shut down Davis is always a tough task so the Nuggets were tempted to change their defensive schemes and double team him, but instead they stuck to their guns and managed to keep every other Pelicans player quiet and escape with the narrow win.
In ATS trends, the Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five against the NBA Southwest, while the Nuggets are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days rest.
Head to head, the Blazers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Denver and the road team is 10-4-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings overall.
It's always tough to beat the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center but I'm backing the Blazers have enjoyed plenty of success ATS when playing the Nuggets in recent meetings, so I'm banking on them to bounce back from their Thursday loss to the Clippers and come out with a hard-fought road win in this one.
