The Dallas Mavericks pay a visit to the Houston Rockets tonight at the Toyota Center.
The Mavericks will be eager to avoid a third straight loss to start the season after falling to the Rockets by 106-98 on Friday night. Harrison Barnes had a great game, leading the Mavs with 31 points on 13 of 23 shooting, Deron Williams added 14 points while Wesley Matthews had 13, but the Mavs went ice cold in the second and third quarters where they were outscored by 53-43. Dirk Nowitzki was absent from the lineup with a stomach ailment and his status for tonight is still up in the air at this point.

Meanwhile, the Rockets will be delighted with their win over the Mavs as they were desperate to atone for their loss to the Lakers on opening night. James Harden steered the offense with 26 points, seven rebounds and eight assists while Eric Gordon chipped in with 18 points and six assists, but the real x-factor for the Rockets was Trevor Ariza who drained five three-pointers en route to a team-high 27 points on eight of 12 shooting. As a team, the Rockets shot 47.1 percent from the field and a healthy 15 of 32 from the three-point line.
In ATS trends, the Mavs are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven against the Western Conference, while the ROckets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Western Conference.
Head to head, the Mavs are 4-11 ATS in the last 15 meetings overall and just 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings in Houston.
It is always interesting to see how teams bounce back from losses in these home-and-home series, but the Rockets did a great job of pushing the pace and playing their game and it paid off, so I'm banking on them to repeat that performance in their first home game of the season.
