New Orleans Hornets Vs. Boston Celtics 12/28/11
Dan’s Free NBA Basketball Pick Against the Spread
The new look New Orleans Hornets hope to get a win in their season opener as they host the Boston Celtics.
The Hornets got their season off to a perfect start on Monday night with an 85-84 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the season opener for both teams. The newly acquired Eric Gordon, who was brought over from the Clippers as the main piece in the Chris Paul trade, led the way with 20 points, which included a game winning 20 foot jumper with 4.2 seconds remaining to secure the win. New Orleans have only had two preseason games to get accustomed to each other, however they looked good in the opener, especially on the defensive end as they held the usually high scoring Suns to just 84 points on 39% shooting.
Having already faced a pair of the East’s top teams, the Celtics have dropped their first two games for the first time since bringing Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen together in 2007. In their Christmas opener, the Celtics rallied from a 17 point deficit against the New York Knicks to take a fourth quarter lead, but ultimately came up short in the end, falling 106-104 at Madison Square Garden. On Tuesday night, Boston fell behind by as many as 20 points against the Miami Heat, but once again they managed to fight their way back, only to see the Heat come away with a 115-107 win. Through two games, Rajon Rondo has been the lone start for the C’s, with averages of 26.5 points, 12.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Hornets are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 vs. NBA Atlantic and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest. The Celtics on the other hand are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Western Conference and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games playing on 0 days rest.
The line here just looks to be a little too light to entice me into taking Charlotte and I will roll with the Celtics on the road laying the small and reasonable number.
