Los Angeles Lakers at Boston Celtics NBA FINALS - GAME 4 - LAKERS LEAD SERIES 2-1 Wednesday May 10, 2010 09:00 PM EST (ABC) The Line: Boston -3.5
Behind an inspired fourth quarter performance by Derek Fisher, the Los Angeles Lakers manged to hold off a late Boston surge to record a 91-84 victory on Tuesday night and in the process took a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven series.
Fisher, who scored just 5 points through the first three quarters, was the difference in the fourth quarter as he hit four of the five Lakers baskets after Boston had cut a 17 point first half lead down to one point, finishing the game with 16 points to seal the victory for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant top scored of the Lakers with 29 points, although he connected on just 10 of his 29 field goal attempts for the Lakers who struggled shooting from behind the arc, hitting only 2 of their 15 three point attempts.
Playing infront of their home crowd for the first time in this series, the Celtics started the game strong as they scored 12 points in the opening four minutes of the game, however it would all go down hill after that as they only managed 5 points for the rest of the quarter, which sooned turned into a 37-20 lead for the Lakers as they took over the game. The Celtics did fight within a point in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough as they couldn’t contain Fisher and the Lakers in the closing minutes.
After setting an NBA record for three’s in Game 2, Ray Allen missed all 13 shoots he took from the field in Game 3, which was just shy of the worst shooting performance in the NBA finals history, finishing the game with only two points in 42 minutes of action. The bright spark to come out of the game for the Celtics was the play of Kevin Garnett who finished with a team high 25 points on 11-16 shooting, showing everyone that the Garnett of old is still alive.
Even though this only Game 4, tonight’s game is a do or die game of the Celtics as the can ill afford to drop another home game and fall behind 3-1 in the series. There’s no doubt the Celtics would have been concerned with the outcome of Game 3, however they were within a point in the final quarter with Allen and Peirce struggiling to score the ball, so there is room for optimism tonight.
I just can’t see the Celtics losing this one tonight, I think they will get much more production from Allen and Peirce and that will be enough to carry them over the line and even this series……
Dan’s Pick: Boston -3.5
