Cleveland Cavaliers Vs. Indiana Pacers
12/21/12 Peter’s Free NBA Basketball Pick Against the Spread
It's all starting to come together for the Pacers who have won four and five and are coming off their most dominant win of the season, a 104-84 win over the Jazz. Paul George and George Hill had 20 points each, while Gerald Green scored a season-high 21 points off the bench, but it was the team's defense which limited the Jazz to eight points in the second quarter that really impressed me. I mean, Indiana even limited Al Jefferson to just four points on one of eight shooting. With the recent string of wins, Indiana improved to 14-12 on the season.
On the other hand, the Cavaliers have lost five straight and 10 of their last 11 to drop down to just 5-22 on the season. Other than a surprise victory over the Lakers on Dec 11, the return of Kyrie Irving hasn't helped the team win any of their last five games, keeping in mind he did score 41 against the Knicks in a 103-102 loss on Saturday. Irving just needs help, he needs more from Dion Waiters who has totalled 21 points in his two games back from injury, and he needs Anderson Varejao who missed the team's last game and is listed as a game-time decision for tonight.
In ATS trends, the Pacers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against teams under .400 and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, while the Cavs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against winning teams but just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 overall.
Anderson Varejao is still listed as a game-time decision for tonight, but the line has already been released and I feel that the value is with the Pacers tonight. I know the Cavs will be desperated to snap out of their terrible slump but the Paul George and the Pacers are finally beginning to click and should be good enough to take care of these young Cavs.
