The Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions face off on Thursday for a week two NFL preseason matchup.

The Cleveland Browns started their preseason on the right foot getting a win over the St. Louis Rams in week one but as we move into week two we should get a better idea as to what we are going to see from them this season. Brandon Weeden was 10 of 13 for 112 yards and a touchdown and Brian Hoyer was 10 of 14 for 100 yards and a TD. Brandon Jackson got the bulk of the carries averaging 2.9 yards per carry and catching five passes while Dion Lewis averaged 2.4 yards per carry also catching three passes. Trent Richardson will be the Browns go to guy this season regardless of what happens this preseason. Josh Gordon, Greg Little, and Josh Cooper each had two catches as the Browns still appear to not have much when it comes to receivers. With so many different players seeing time the tackles were spread around as D’Qwell Jackson had two tackles but Akeem Auguste, Trevin Wade, Josh Bademose, and Josh Aubrey all had four tackles while Quentin Groves had a sack. The Browns were plus three in turnovers and that was the real difference maker for them.

The Detroit Lions are looking to get back to the playoffs this season as after years of drafting high they look to have a solid core of talent. In their first preseason game against the Jets Matthew Stafford saw limited action completing just three of his eight passes while Shaun Hill had two touchdown passes and Kellen Moore completed eight of 13. Mikel LeShoure is trying to prove he is back from his season ending injury a year ago and he averaged four yards per carry while Reggie Bush gained only five yards on three carries. Calvin Johnson had three catches in last week’s game for 58 yards while Matt Willis and Mike Thomas added three catches each. D.J. Johnson led the defense with seven tackles while Tyrell Johnson had five but as we move deeper into the preseason expect to see more of the starters like Ndamakung Suh, Nick Fairley, and Stephen Tulloch.

We have two teams looking to make a jump up this year but the way I see it the Lions are just well ahead of where the Browns are right now and what separates teams in the NLF isn’t much as any player who can make any NFL roster can play in the league, just some teams are deeper than others with top tier talent and when we look further down the depth chart it’s tough not to like what the Lions have a lot more than what the Browns do.
