The Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts meet at Lucas Oil Stadium to kickoff their 2013 season with these teams heading in opposite directions.

The Oakland Raiders have been the league’s doormat for the last decade plus and after a surprising start to 2011-2012 that was cut short after Jason Campbell went down with a collarbone injury, it is back to normal for the silver and black. However, this season has a different feeling from the others as there seems to be no optimism whatsoever and many have the Raiders pegged as the league’s worst team this season, with three victories being considered a successful season. General Manager Reggie McKenzie has said it is going to be a process to dig Oakland out of the hole they have gotten themselves into, but it doesn’t ease the pain for Raider Nation, especially after suffering through so many years of futility already. The Raiders are slated to start Terrelle Pryor in their season opener against the Colts, but regardless of who they have behind center, it will be tough without an experienced offensive line to keep the signal caller upright. Oakland does have a few weapons in Rod Streater and Denarius Moore, plus the tandem of Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece in the back field, but I think it’s going to be a very long season once again in Oakland.

The Colts, meanwhile, will be looking to build off their surprising season a year ago, in which they rebounded from a 2-14 season to make the playoffs under the guidance of Andrew Luck. The sophomore pivot will look to get the Colts back into the postseason once again after they fell to the Super Bowl champions in the divisional round last year and with more pieces coming into Indianapolis this season, the Colts could very well challenge the Texans for the division title. Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, and Coby Fleener give the Colts plenty of receiving options, while former Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw leads the charge in a backfield that will feature Vick Ballard as a change of pace back as well. While Indy is a favorite to do some damage this season, you have to take their week one effort with a grain of salt, as they’re matching up against a Raiders team who shouldn’t be considered an NFL team by any stretch of the imagination. Getting the Colts anywhere south of double digits is a steal in my opinion and I think they get out to an early lead and don’t let it squander.  Indy wins big.
