The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans face off on Sunday in the Steel City as they open their 2013 NFL Football seasons.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a season where they didn’t make the playoffs and where more than a third of their games were decided on the games’ final play. Ben Roethlisberger once again took a beating in the pocket as the Steelers continue to look for answers on the offensive line but overall Roethlisberger continues to be one of the NFL’s best. There are question marks I the Steelers backfield as Isaac Redman has missed the final two preseason games but he said he could have played. Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown try and replace the departed Mike Wallace and Heath Miller should be activated from the PUP. The Steelers defense continues to be tough and Brett Keisel will need to bring the pass rush and Ziggy Hood just needs to step u his game. Lawrence Timmons always seems to be in the play and Troy Polamalu continues to make receivers think twice about going over the middle. The Steelers are a different look than last year but it should all come down to the offensive line play.

The Tennessee Titans have a lot of talent on their roster as far as the first team but their lack of quality depth puts more pressure on the starters. It is Jake Locker’s offense this year and from what we have seen of him he has been inconsistent, as he seems to have all of the skills, he just doesn’t always apply them on the field. Chris Johnson had a down year but he is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. Kenny Britt and Nate Washington are the starting receivers but last year’s first round pick Kendall Wright can burn. On defense Kamerion Wimbley will be called on to apply the pressure from the front four, Colin McCarthy is a steady tackler and motor player in the middle, and Michael Griffin has the ability to be on e of the best safeties in the NFL. The Titans aren’t expected to do much this season and for some teams that is when they are at their best.
Pittsburgh is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five home games, and 4-10-1 against the spread against AFC teams. Tennessee is 6-13-1 against the spread in their last 20 games and 2-7-1 against the spread in their last 10 road games. The underdog has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
The Steelers are generally a lousy cover team which is more of a credit to their strong and loyal fan base than anything else was they win games, just don’t blow people out. If the Steelers are going to roll a team this could be the spot as while I don’t see the Titans being as bad as many think, this is just a lousy spot for them in Pittsburgh for the home opener.
