The Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers face off in a week 2 NFL match up with each tam looking for their first win of the season.
The Buffalo Bills looked like they might pull the biggest upset of week 1 of the NFL season as they had the New England Patriots on the ropes but they let the Pats off the hook losing on a last second field goal. The E.J. Manuel era got underway last Sunday as he completed nearly 67 percent of his pass with two touchdowns and no interceptions. C.J. Spiller ran for 41 yards and caught five passes but he was dinged up once again and Fred Jackson took over rushing for a 5.2-yard per carry average and catching four passes. Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods both caught touchdown passes. Defensively the Bills allowed 431 yards but more importantly they allowed the yards in crunch time which was ultimately their undoing. Da’Norris Searcy had nine tackles and a sack and Kiko Alonso and Jim Leonhard each had nine tackles to lead the Buffalo defense. While it was a fine effort, it remains to be seen if the Bills have what it takes to put them in position to pull as big of an upset as the chance they had against the Patriots.

The Carolina Panthers were in a war in week one with the Seattle Seahawks and even though they had surrendered the lead they looked to be on their way to regaining it late when a fumble inside the Seattle 10 ended their hopes. QB Cam Newton completed nearly 70 percent of his passes but he didn’t throw anything deep in the second half as he had one touchdown and no interceptions. DeAngelo Williams had 86 yards rushing but it was his fumble which cost the Panthers the opportunity to pull out a win. Steve Smith had six catches including a touchdown and Greg Olson had five catches. Defensively the Panthers allowed 370 yards but they had trouble stopping Russell Wilson as he was just out of their grasp all day long. Charles Godfrey had nine tackles and a sack and Luke Kuechly and Tomas Davis had nine tackles each. Head Coach Ron Rivera has already said he may have been too conservative on offense in the second half.
Buffalo is 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 week 2 games, 5-2 against the spread following a loss, and 2-10-1 against the spread following a cover. Carolina is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, 4-1 against the spread following a loss, and 5-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. The road team has covered four in a row in the last four meetings of these two.
I am expecting a defensive game and for this one to come in under the total and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that winning pick in the Premium Area.
