The Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears face off on Sunday in Washington in a NFL battle of playoff hopefuls.
After making the playoffs last season the Washington Redskins are off to a rough start and aren’t playing like the same team they were last year. The Washington offense is averaging just 21.4 points per game despite averaging a 4th best in the NFL 399.2 yards per game. Robert Griffin III has completed 59.8 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and five interceptions while being sacked 10 times and rushing for 149 yards. Alfred Morris is averaging 5.2 yards per carry with three touchdowns and Roy Helu is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and has 14 receptions in limited action. Pierre Garcon has 35 catches and two touchdowns and Leonard Hankerson, Santana Moss, and Jordan Reed each have 17 catches. Defensively the Redskins rank 27th in average points allowed at 28.6 and they are 28th in yards allowed at 395 per game and they have three interceptions, 16 sacks, and five fumble recoveries. Perry Riley has 43 tackles, London Fletcher has 42 tackles, and Ryan Kerrigan has 5.0 sacks. It’s clear the RGIII isn’t his same self and the Redskins just aren’t the same team.

The Chicago Bears had lost two in a row but they got back to winning knocking off the winless New York Giants on Thursday and now have had a few extra days to work on things. The Bears offense is averaging 28.7 points per game which is good enough for third in the NFL and they average 369.2 yards per game. Jay Cutler has completed 65.9 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions while being sacked nine times. Matt Forte has been integral in the bears offense averaging 4.4 yards per carry with three rushing touchdowns and e has 33 receptions out of the backfield. Brandon Marshall has 40 catches and five touchdowns, Martellus Bennett has 31 catches and three touchdowns, and Alshon Jeffery has 29 catches and two touchdowns. The Bears defense is allowing 26.8 points and 373 yards per game with nine interceptions, eight sacks, and 12 fumble recoveries. Lance Briggs has 56 tackles, Major Wright has 45 tackles, and Tim Jennings has three interceptions. Rookie Jon Bostic gets the start this week at inside linebacker with D.J. Williams out.
Washington is 0-5 against the spread against the NFC, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a winning record. Chicago is 1-5-1 against the spread in their last seven games, 1-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-5 against the spread against the NFC. The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
While these teams are known for defense, the defenses on these teams have been giving it up this season and I look for this one to sail over the total and that is my free pick. My stronger play is on who will cover the point spread and I will post my against the spread winner in the Premium Area.
