The St. Louis Rams and the Chicago Bears face off Sunday in St. Louis in week 12 NFL action.

The St. Louis Rams are an improving team but with improving has come inconsistent play. The Rams are at 4-6 and while they aren’t out of the post-season hunt they are in last place in the very competitive NFC West. The Rams offense is averaging 22.4 points and 316.5 yards per game. With Sam Bradford gone for the season Kellen Clemens has done an admirable job at QB completing 53.5 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Zac Stacy has become a legitimate NFL starting running back gaining 537 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Jared Cook and Tavon Austin lead the Rams in receptions as they both have 33 each. The Rams defense has been tough allowing 23.4 points and 351.8 yards per game. James Laurinaitis has 75 tackles, Alec Ogletree has 64 tackles, and Robert Quinn has 12 sacks. The Rams have front line talent but they have made some mistakes that have cost them games.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears appeared to be headed toward a loss in week 11 against the Ravens but after a weather delay they rallied to win in overtime. The Bears are tied atop the NFC North with the Lions though they lost to the Lions head to head so they don’t own the tiebreaker. The Bears offense is averaging 28.2 points and 367.3 yards per game. With Jay Cutler sidelined Josh McCown has completed 60.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Matt Forte has rushed for 774 yards and seven touchdowns and he has caught 49 passes. Brandon Marshall has 64 catches and eight touchdowns and Alshon Jeffery has 54 catches. Defensively the Bears allow 26.7 points and 373 yards per game and they are plus 10 in turnover ratio. Major Wright has 71 tackles, James Anderson has 61 tackles, and Julius Peppers has four sacks. If the Bears can keep on winning they have another game with the Lions so they control their own destiny in the NFC North and the playoffs.

St. Louis is 5-1 against the spread following a bye week, 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games, and 105 against the spread against the NFC. Chicago is 5-15-1 against the spread in their last 21 games, 1-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 1-7 against the spread following a win. The Bears have covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.

The Bears have a better record but are the underdogs here and while I like the Rams pass rush and the emergence of Austin as a home run threat the Bears, when they don’t turn the ball over, are the better team and McCown simply doesn’t make a lot of mistakes giving Chicago the edge here.
