The Line: Detroit Lions -5.5 -- Over/Under: 52.5 See the Latest Odds
The Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers face off on Thursday at Ford Field for the annual Thanksgiving Day NFL game.
The Detroit Lions are tied for first place in the NFC North but they are coming off back-to-back losses including last week at home to Tampa Bay. The Lions own the tiebreaker with the Bears but if they don’t start winning that might not even come into play. Matthew Stafford has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and 3,495 yards while being sacked 14 times. Reggie Bush is averaging 4,6 yards per carry giving him 737 yards for the season and he has 40 receptions with four combined touchdowns. Calvin Johnson continues to amaze with 66 receptions and 11 touchdowns and Brandon Pettigrew has 37 catches. Stephen Tulloch has 91 tackles and 2.0 sacks, DeAndre levy has 90 tackles and 5 interceptions, and Louis Delmas has 45 tackles. The Lions offense is averaging 26 points per game and 412.1 yards while defensively they are allowing 25.2 points and 364.8 yards per game. The Lions look to be the best team in the NFC North right now but they haven’t been able to take control of the division.

The Green Bay Packers haven’t won in four games with last week’s tie against the Minnesota Vikings being their best result over that period. With Aaron Rodgers on the sideline the Packers are simply a different team and not in a good way. Matt Flynn is back at QB being the Packers 4th starter at that position this season making it more this year than over the last 21 years combined. Eddie Lacy is getting the bulk of the carries and he has 806 yards and six touchdowns this season. Jordy Nelson has 61 catches and seven touchdowns and James Jones and Jarrett Boykin each have 34 catches. A.J. Hawk is the Packers leading tackler with 91 tackles and 5.0 sacks, Morgan Burnett has 62 tackles, and Brad Jones has 59 tackles. The Packers offense is averaging 25.8 points and 424.4 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 24.1 points and their opponents are averaging 359.6 yards per game.
Detroit is 4-1 against the spread against the NFC North, 9-20 against the spread against the NFC, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Green Bay is 12-3 against the spread against the NFC North, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 0-4 against the spread against the NFC. Green Bay is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games in Detroit.
The total is hovering around the 50 range and if Rodgers doesn’t play, which is the likely scenario, I like this one to stay under as the Packers will tray to control the ball on the ground and the under is my free pick. I also have a play on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area.
