NFL Updates: Jones-Drew, Palmer, Week 14 Schedule and More
December 7, 2013
We’ve finally reached the weekend, which means we’ve only got one more day to wait until the NFL starts back up again tomorrow afternoon. While we’re waiting, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players and storylines happening out there this morning. Here’s the latest.
Kubiak Out in Houston: The 2013 NFL season claimed its first coaching victim yesterday, when it was announced that Gary Kubiak had been fired as head coach of the Houston Texans.
Coming into the year, the Texans were one of the favorites to claim a Super Bowl berth. They fell quickly after winning their first two games, dropping a franchise-record 11 straight. The latest came Thursday night against the surging Jaguars.
Kubiak had coached the Texans since 2006, and he finishes his tenure with a 61-64 record in Houston. In his absence, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will serve as the interim coach.

Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: We should be getting an official update on Jones-Drew’s injury at some point this weekend. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI yesterday, just hours after he tore up the Texans defense for 103 rush yards on 14 carries (and another 20 through the air on a pair of catches).
Jones-Drew made some comments yesterday that lead most to believe that his odds of playing in Week 15 are pretty good. He seemed to downplay the injury, calling it a strain and saying he’ll be good to go after some treatment. We’ll keep an eye on him during next week’s practice sessions and see how he’s doing.
Carson Palmer, QB, Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals have a big-time game coming up tomorrow at home against the Rams, and they may have to do it without Palmer. He’s considered questionable and will be a game-time decision due to an elbow injury he’s been fighting all week.
Palmer has been pretty effective over the last several games, so it’ll be a big blow to the Cards if he can’t go. In his last four games, he has nine touchdown passes and has thrown for over 300 yards three times. If he’s out, it’ll be Drew Stanton under center.
NFL Week 14 Schedule: One game is in the books, but there are plenty more to go this week. Hopefully your favorite team still has a shot at the playoffs, because there’s not a whole lot of football left. Here’s a look at the remaining Week 14 schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the games on.
