NFL Updates: Dolphins, Important Upcoming Dates and More
January 27, 2014
Now that the Pro Bowl is all finished up, we’ve got less than a week to wait until the Super Bowl this coming Sunday. In the meantime, there are plenty of ongoing storylines and happenings around the league that we can keep tabs on, so with that in mind let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players out there and see what everyone’s up to. Here’s the latest.
Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos: When Denver has the ball during the Super Bowl, the matchup everyone wants to see is Seattle uber-corner Richard Sherman against beastly Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas. It remains to be seen whether or not the two will be matched up one-on-one, but for the record, Thomas is looking forward to the challenge if that scenario arises.
Thomas led a prolific Denver receiving corps with 92 grabs for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Sherman, meanwhile, gained widespread notoriety with his game-saving play at the end of the NFC Championship--and his polarizing post-game comments.

Charles Tillman, CB, Chicago Bears: Has Peanut played his last down in a Bears uniform? It’s looking that way. News broke from sources close to the team this weekend, saying Chicago would be unlikely to offer Tillman the kind of contract he would command on the open market--likely at or above the $7.93 million he earned this past season.
Further speculation dictates that he may ultimately end up rejoining former head coach Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay--an addition that would bolster an already formidable secondary.
Tillman has spent his entire 11-year NFL career in Chicago, but is coming off a triceps injury that cost him seven games in 2013. He has 36 career interceptions and eight touchdowns.
Mike Wallace, WR, Miami Dolphins: Here’s an interesting nugget that emerged yesterday. Wallace made some remarks over the weekend about how he and Miami QB Ryan Tannehill need to work on their deep-ball chemistry this off-season.
In 2013, Wallace posted just three games with a long catch of over 40 yards (his season-long was 57). He and Tannehill connected on just 6-of-36 passes longer than 20 yards--a league worst.
Wallace was quoted as saying he should have had “15 or 20 more” touchdowns if the deep ball had been working this past season. Instead, he finished with just five. Expect a renewed focus on the deep ball in 2014.
NFL Playoffs and Key Dates: There’s just one more game left in the NFL season, and after that it’s back to anticipation mode for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the remaining schedule, along with a few important upcoming dates we’ll be seeing soon.
