NFL Updates: Jackson, Dolphins, Off-Season Schedule and More

April 2, 2014

See the Latest Odds

There are plenty of off-season storylines to keep up with in the NFL, even during the lull between the owners’ meetings and the OTAs next week. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are making headlines out there. Here’s the latest.

Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami Dolphins: Have we seen the last of Thomas in a Dolphins jersey? It’s certainly possible, as there are news outlets down in South Beach reporting that he’s in danger of not making the team this season.
Miami is fresh off signing free-agent RB Knowshon Moreno, who is expected to be platooning with Lamar Miller. That leaves Thomas as the odd man out. What’s worse is that he was drafted under the old GM regime, so he likely doesn’t have too many cheerleaders in the front office. We’ll continue to monitor things as the season draws closer.

NFL News: Player News and Updates for 4/2/14

DeSean Jackson, WR, Washington Redskins: According to a report, the Jackson saga has reached its end. He remained in the NFC East after a quick stint with no home, agreeing to terms with the Washington Redskins yesterday evening. We’re still waiting on an official announcement from the team, and we’d imagine that will come sometime today.
Jackson didn’t stay a free man for too long, and even though several teams were reportedly interested in him, he didn’t end up going too far. We’d imagine the chance to strike back at his former team twice a year was a big motivating factor in his signing with the Redskins. It should make for some high drama in the division during 2014.

Dimitri Patterson, DB, New York Jets: The Jets desperately needed to sign a defensive back (almost as desperately as they needed wide receivers), and they’ve got a fresh name in Dimitri Patterson. He signed a one-year deal with the team yesterday, a contract worth $3 million.
Patterson is coming off an injury-riddled season that limited him to just six games in 2013. That said, he put up four interceptions and 19 tackles in those half-dozen appearances. He’s played a full season just once during his career (nine years).

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Free Agent: Here’s an interesting nugget. The free agent Heyward-Bey will be visiting with Pittsburgh today to check out the Steelers organization and possibly make a deal. He’s coming off a 29-catch, 309-yard season with the Colts in 2013, but dropped nine passes as well.
Heyward-Bey didn’t materialize as a legitimate threat for Indy last season after Reggie Wayne went down, and was subsequently forgotten in the Colts’ 2WR/2TE base offense.
