NFL Updates: Chad Johnson, Week 1 Preseason Matchups, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 13, 2014
We’re halfway through another weekend, and the anticipation for the 2014 NFL Draft continues to build with every passing day. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the notable storylines out there in the league this morning and see who’s making headlines right now. Here’s the latest.
Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots: It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the ol’ Gronk, so let’s see what he’s up to right now. The good news here is that he’s right on schedule in his return from reconstructive knee surgery. After visiting with Dr. James Andrews late this past week, he was deemed to be “right where he should be” and will begin adding a jogging schedule to his rehab in the near future.
Last season’s torn ACL and MCL capped off an injury-plagued and very trying campaign for Gronkowski, who had overcome back and forearm issues to be able to return to the field.
This is a good sign, but Gronk still has several hurdles to clear before he’s deemed fit for duty in the 2014 season. We’ll keep you posted.
USA TODAY Sports
DeSean Jackson, WR, Washington Redskins: File this one under the “For What It’s Worth” section of the news, as it doesn’t have much bearing on the situation as a whole, but is interesting nonetheless. Eagles RB LeSean McCoy was reported yesterday as saying that he never saw ex-Philly WR DeSean Jackson and head coach Chip Kelly get into arguments, as has been widely reported in the wake of his release from Philadelphia and subsequent signing in DC.
McCoy is still bewildered at the Eagles’ decision to cut their star WR, and said Jackson would “always work it out” when it came to problems and issues.
Regardless, the Eagles and Jackson are now enemies, which should add a very interesting layer to the NFC East this season.
Chad Johnson to Return?: Here’s a fun story that came out yesterday. Ex-Bengals and Patriots WR Chad Johnson will be working out for the Montreal Alouettes this week in an attempt to revive his professional football career in the Canadian Football League.
There’s no word on what his chances are, or how much of that breakaway speed he’s still got, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can make the team.
Johnson had an 11-year NFL career and is 36 years of age.
