NFL Updates: Richardson, Meachem, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 20, 2014
Now that the weekend is nearly over, we can start looking forward to the organized workouts happening for many NFL teams this week. In the meantime, let’s take our daily look around the league and see what’s happening out there. Here are a few of the top stories right now.
Trent Richardson, RB, Indianapolis Colts: Richardson’s trade from Cleveland to Indianapolis--and his subsequent bombing statistically--was one of the big stories of the NFL last season. We got a bit of an explanation for his futility from the man himself this weekend, as Richardson blamed his downfall on taking too long to learn the Colts’ playbook--in addition to getting over his departure from Cleveland.
For the record, Richardson promises a big turnaround in 2014, citing increased synchronization with the offensive line and his QB Andrew Luck. It should be interesting to see what the Colts can do offensively with everyone healthy and up to speed.

Robert Meachem, WR, New Orleans Saints: One topic we didn’t cover late last week when it happened was the Saints’ re-signing of veteran WR Robert Meachem, so let’s take a look at that situation. His new deal is for one year, and was probably about the best thing he was going to get considering the deep WR market in free agency and the draft this year.
Meachem is primarily a situational threat for the Saints. His talents lie in run blocking and as a deep-ball threat when the team attempts play-action. He caught 16 passes for 324 yards and a pair of touchdowns last year.
Fantasy Corner: Even though we’re experiencing the lull between NFL seasons right now, it’s never too early to start thinking about your fantasy roster. We’ll be doing that from time to time this off-season, and will be revisiting things in depth as the opening week draws closer. For now, let’s take a look at the top 10 running backs in this year’s fantasy draft. This will be a very valuable position on your roster once again, as teams are increasingly switching to a committee approach when it comes to running the football.
