NFL Updates: Injury Updates, Off-Season Schedule and More
June 12, 2014
It’s been a great week of NFL action already, even though we’re still pretty far off from the official Week 1 start date. Let’s get our football fix by taking our daily look at some of the notable storylines out there and see what’s happening across the league. Here’s the latest.
Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons: It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Jones’ health, so let’s see what he’s been up to recently. He’s continuing to recover from foot surgery last October, but still has a ways to go before he’s back to 100 percent.
Jones has been saddled with all sorts of restrictions as he heals, and was recently prohibited from jumping while he was filming a commercial. That said, he’s doing some cutting and route-running and should be good to go by the time the season begins.
Atlanta will definitely need Jones to be 100 percent in 2014, as without him they look pretty much lost in the passing game.

Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys: Let’s check in on another injury situation in Romo, who has been making headlines even as he heals from his back surgery this past December. He’s been limited during the team’s OTAs, but has been doing some throwing and individual work on the side.
Romo says he could conceivably play in a game right now were it necessary, but still needs a little more healing before he’s back to his old self. The goal here is for him to be completely recovered by training camp, which looks like it’s an achievable scenario. We’ll find out soon enough, but as of now things are looking pretty good for a Cowboys team in desperate need of good injury news.
Fantasy Corner: This week, we’ve been taking a position-by-position look at the upcoming fantasy football draft and talking about some of the top players at each spot. Today it’s time for tight ends, which is always a tough call for every fantasy owner.
The hands-down top pick will be Jimmy Graham, bar none. After that you take a significant step down for Julius Thomas and Rob Gronkowski. Vernon davis isn’t far behind, and Jordan Cameron rounds out the top five.
From there, things get a little sketchy. Dennis Pitta and Jason Witten should offer nice value, while Jordan Reed, Kyle Rudolph and Greg Olsen are lower-end starters.
A little further down, we like Ladarius Green, Martellus Bennett and Heath Miller, so be on the lookout for those guys as well.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
