While QBR (that’s quarterback rating for anyone who has been off the grid for the last few decades) alone doesn’t determine a QB’s worth in the NFL, it can be a good indicator of how your team’s leading man is doing on the field. Today, we’re going to work our way through the top ten total QBRs of the 2013 season. Quick note: I took the liberty of not listing guys like Colt McCoy who weren’t actually regular starters for any length of time.

Top Ten NFL Quarterback Ratings of 2013

USA TODAY Sports

1. Philadelphia Eagles’ QB Nick Foles surprised just about everyone when he burst onto the scene last year. Foles also managed to finish the season with the highest QBR in the league (that’s higher than #18, folks) at 119.2.

2. #18, of course, comes in at No. 2 with a total QBR of 115.1. Peyton Manning had an undeniably awesome season in 2013, except for that final game, which could’ve gone better…

3. Josh McCown, who took the reigns for the Chicago Bears when Jay Cutler got hurt, had a QBR of 109.0 during his time under center. Not bad for a guy who a lot of NFL fans thought was washed-up.

4. Philip Rivers, whose San Diego Chargers came on strong at the end of the 2013 season, had a total QBR of 105.5 (yes, I know, it sounds like a radio station).

5. Even though Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers missed half the season with a broken clavicle (ouch), he managed to finish the year with a QBR of 104.9. Rodgers, true to form, didn’t lose his touch while he was out and barely even looked rusty upon his late-season return.

6. Drew Brees, QB for the New Orleans Saints, finished the 2013 season with a total QBR of 104.7. Speaking of the Big Easy’s favorite team, I know we’re all waiting with bated breath to hear Jimmy Graham’s appeal ruling on Thursday.

7. Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson had a QBR of 101.2 in 2013. While we can focus on the Legion of Boom and the rest of the Seahawks’ D all we want, the offense did work all year long too. Defense might win championships, but you can’t bring home the Lombardi without balance, people.

8.Tony Romo, who was injured the last couple of weeks of the 2013 season, finished the year with a 96.7 QBR. I have to point out that this is an above-average number, which is a departure for the ‘Boys in recent years…

9. Big Ben Roethisberger, the main man for the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a 92.0 QBR at the end of the 2013 season.

10. San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick led his team to the NFC championship for the second consecutive year in 2013. Kaepernick’s total QBR was 91.6.
