Training camps around the NFL will really be getting going this week, so it’s an exciting time for football fans. In the meantime, there’s plenty of news out there to digest, so let’s check out the noteworthy players in the headlines in our daily NFL wrap-up.

Bears QB Competition: Ever since Josh McCown left the Windy City and bolted for greener pastures down in Tampa Bay, the big question around town has been centered around which QB will be taking on the No. 2 gig in Chicago this season.
The battle will be centered around newly-signed Jimmy Clausen and incumbent Jordan Palmer. The loser will likely be cut before the season, as the No. 3 spot is expected to be occupied by new draft pickup David Fales, who has been deemed a developmental project with long-term payoff possibilities.
Sources close to the team are speculating that Clausen has overtaken Palmer for the No. 2 gig, though we won’t be able to tell for sure until the Bears get going in camp. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.

Broncos RB Competition: While we’re on the subject of players competing for roster positions, let’s head up to Denver and check out the situation in their backfield.
Montee Ball has a secure lock on the No. 1 RB gig, but after that it’s pretty wide open. Sources covering the team in Denver are speculating that Ronnie Hillman will more than likely land the No. 2 spot, with fellow backup C.J. Anderson likely not even making it to the season opener as a Bronco.
The team also has a couple of pretty talented undrafted rookies in Brennan Clay and Juwan Thompson, and either of them could end up on the final roster. Each brings his own set of skills to the table; Clay has good hands and Thompson does well on special teams and pass protection.

Titans Receiver Projections: There’s a healthy bit of buzz surrounding the Titans receiving corps, so potential fantasy football owners listen up. Second-year WR Justin Hunter is a name to keep an eye on, as those in Tennessee really are liking what they’re seeing from him. One source has already penciled him in for 44 catches, 690 yards and seven scores.
Then there’s Kendall Wright, who some are tagging for a breakout campaign in 2014. The third-year man has already earned projections of 88 catches, 1,360 yards and eight touchdowns.
Of course, all this production hinges on the success of Jake Locker, who is in a make-or-break season. It’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out.
