TV:

Last week was a pretty interesting one when it comes to NFL news and activity. We’ve got plenty more action coming our way as the training camps continue this week, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making news out there. Here’s the latest.

Vick Ballard, RB, Indianapolis Colts: Most of the NFL community and fans feared the worst when the Colts’ Vick Ballard went down during training camp on Friday, and yesterday we got confirmation on those fears.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano confirmed that Ballard had sustained a torn Achilles tendon and he will be out for the rest of the season. This will be the second straight year he’s dealt with a major injury; In 2013, he missed major time due to an ACL issue. Indy will have to lean that much harder on Trent Richardson in the meantime.

USA TODAY Sports

Jordy Nelson, WR, Green Bay Packers: Talented Green Bay WR Jordy Nelson got some good news yesterday, when he inked a four-year deal worth $39 million. Of that money, a reported $14.2 million is guaranteed.
That’s pretty close to Nelson’s asking price; He wanted to get around $10 million per year. He would have been a free agent after 2014 if the Pack hadn’t extended him. Atlanta’s Roddy White just signed a contract for $30 million, so that puts him ahead in the salary bragging rights column.
During the 2013 season, Nelson dazzled onlookers with 85 catches for 1,314 yards and eight touchdowns.

Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills: With Indianapolis’ Vick Ballard going down during training camp yesterday, some were fearing a similar grim prognosis for the Bills’ Fred Jackson, who also exited practice on Friday due to an injury.
Jackson escaped unscathed, however, as his injury is being classified as a leg bruise and he’s day-to-day.
That’s good news for Jackson, who will be fighting for dominance in the Bills backfield among C.J. Spiller and newcomer Bryce Brown. Jackson will likely end up seeing fewer touches this season because of all the competition.

Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
