NFL Previews: 2014 New York Giants Preview and Analysis

New York Giants 2013 Record: 7-9

TV:

The New York Giants had a disappointing season last year to say the least.  The Giants were considered by some to be a dark horse Super Bowl candidate, and instead the Giants went 7-9, missing the playoffs.

Eli Manning will be under center once again for the Giants, and after a horrible season in 2013, Manning will be looking to rebound in 2014.  The Giants are looking to have a revamped running game, with former Raider Rahsad Jennings in the backfield, along with David Wilson, who some feel will have an improved 2014 campaign over last year.  The Giants also addressed some needs in the wide receiving category, as the Giants drafted one of my favorite players coming out in this past draft, Odell Beckham Jr.  He will be alongside Rueben Randle and of course Victor Cruz.  The offense for the Giants needs to be able to run the ball effectively, something they could not do in 2013, but with a new OC and some new faces behind Manning, I expect to see an improved team this season.

USA TODAY Sports

Defensively the Giants played pretty well last year, considering they didn’t get much help at all from the offense.  New York seemingly always has one of the best defensive lines in the game, but are lacking in the second and third levels.  New York went to address that this season, picking up Jon Beason from the Panthers.  The secondary for the Giants has a nice mix of young and veteran talent, and once again I look for New York to have one of the better defenses of their division.

New York has a favorable schedule this year, especially considering they drew the NFC West.  New York gets the Niners at home, and while the Giants do travel to Seattle, the Giants get the Colts at home.  The early part of the Giants schedule is by far the worst, but if New York can get through that healthy and in decent position, the Giants have a shot of returning to the playoffs in 2014.
