The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will square off Thursday night in a preseason matchup and a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl.
The defending champion Seahawks pretty much return as the same team they were last season led by the best defense in the game and an offense full of guys who can get the job done. Of course, you likely won’t see the starters very long, which is why I look at the Seahawks quarterback depth that is made up of Tarvaris Jackson and Terrelle Pryor, two former starters and two guys who can make things happen with their legs. That gives the Seahawks a huge advantage when handicapping the preseason. The Seahawks also added a playmaker at wide receiver in rookie Paul Richardson, who could make some plays once the backups get onto the field. Defensively, the Seahawks don’t have a lot of backups who have proven themselves, but they did draft a ball hawk in Dion Bailey and have a solid linebacker in Malcolm Smith.

Although the Broncos would love nothing more than to get revenge on the Seahawks, I’m sure you’ll see that saved for the regular season, as you’re not going to see much of Peyton Manning or the rest of the gang. Brock Osweiler is the Broncos backup, a quarterback who has just 20 career pass attempts. Expect Osweiler to get a lot of the looks in this game and running back Ronnie Hillman, who has been solid in training camp, to get a bulk of the touches. Defensively, the Broncos have a pair of solid backup cornerbacks in Bradley Roby and Kayvon Webster, who are sure to turn some heads this preseason and could start against an unproven quarterback.
As we all know, the preseason is all about the backups, and I really like the Seahawks depth at quarterback over the Broncos lack of experience behind Manning. I’m not sure why the Broncos are the favorite in this matchup, but I’ll gladly take Seattle and the points.
Last year’s Super Bowl will have no impact on this preseason game, as these two teams will meet later in the year.
Take Seattle and the points, but you won’t need them.
