NFL Previews: 2014 Dallas Cowboys Preview and Analysis

Dallas Cowboys 2013 Record: 8-8

2014 NFL Season

Odds to win the Super Bowl: 55/1 See the Latest Odds

The Dallas Cowboys once again finished the season with an 8-8 record last year, losing yet another play-in game for the final playoff spot in the NFC.

Looking at the Cowboys roster, this offense has the potential to be one of the better offenses in the league this year.  Tony Romo is under center once again for Dallas, and if he is/can stay healthy, Romo is a top ten quarterback.  DeMarco Murray was one of my favorite players coming out of college (not just because I’m a Sooner fan) and has proven that he can be a feature back in the NFL.  The problem with Murray is health.  Murray was injured all throughout his career with the Sooners, and now in the NFL he is still banged up every season.  If this offense is going to be truly “elite” then Murray will have to stay healthy for all 16 games.  Also, the Cowboys have this wide receiver guy named Dez Bryant…he is good at football as well.

Of course the big question mark for this team is their defense.  The Cowboys lost DeMarcus Ware to the Broncos in the offseason, and in one of the first OTA’s of the season, Sean Lee went down with a season ending ACL injury.  Lee, like Murray, is one of those players for the Cowboys who are among the best in the NFL at their position, they just need to stay healthy.  This defensive unit was embarrassed last season, and with injuries and losses in free agency, it will be interesting to see if the defense can rebound this year in Big D.

While the Cowboys schedule may look brutal early on, the NFC East is a winnable division for this team, and Dallas gets the Niners, Saints, Texans, and Colts at home this season which is a big plus.  Traveling to Seattle will be tough of course, but this is a workable schedule for Dallas, and if the Cowboys can get some better play out of their defense, Dallas may find themselves in the post season once again.
