The Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals meet Saturday night in preseason action at U of Phoenix Stadium.
The Texans feel like they can go from two wins a season ago to competing for a playoff spot this season. In order for that to happen, the Texans have to decide who their starting quarterback is going to be in a batch that includes Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage. Certainly not the prettiest group of names, but somebody has to step up and make Andre Johnson happy. With question marks surrounding all of the quarterbacks on this team, I’d expect everybody to see equal amount of reps to give everyone a fair shot to earn the job. Defensively, everybody and their mother is going to be keeping a close eye on Jadeveon Clowney, but other guys must make an impact if this is truly a playoff team.

The Cardinals think they have what it takes to contend in the brutal NFC West and build on last season’s 10-win season. In order for this to happen, quarterback Carson Palmer needs to start drinking from the fountain of youth and start performing at a high level with all of these weapons around him. The Cardinals have the potential to be one of the best offenses in the league with guys such as Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and Andre Ellington on the squad. However, in this preseason game, the Cards need to find their backup quarterback in Drew Stanton, Ryan Lindley and Logan Thomas. Good luck with that. Defensively the Cardinals are stacked and have a lot of youth that should pay off. A Cardinals secondary that includes Antonio Cromartie, Deone Bucannon, Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu could be one of the best in the league.
This is a tossup game because neither team really has a backup quarterback that has proven much. However, the Texans have more to prove on the offensive end and we’re getting plus money with them.
Take the Texans.
