The Houston Texans are coming off what has to be one of the most disappointing seasons in team history. Some had the Texans representing the AFC in the Super Bowl, but as it turns out the Texans finished with a record of 2-14, earning themselves the first pick in the draft. Houston started off the season strong, earning wins against the Chargers on the road, and the Titans at home in the first two weeks, but the wheels completely fell off after that, as the Texans dropped 14 straight.
Houston has a new signal caller this season with Ryan Fitzpatrick getting the nod (currently) as the go to guy for the Texans. I don’t know how much faith I have in Fitzpatrick, a guy who has shown the ability to win games, but I just don’t see him as someone who could lead their team beyond the first few rounds of the playoffs. Houston still has dynamic talent on offense with Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, although Johnson has made it public that he is unhappy with the current situation of the team. Foster needs to stay healthy for the Texans this season as Ben Tate has moved on and there is no proven talent behind Foster.

Defensively the Texans are putting together what looks to be one of the best defensive lines in the game. J.J. Watt is an absolute freak, and along with Crick, these two will dominate the ends of the Texans 3-4 look. First round pick Jadeveon Clowney looks to be a monster on the outside for the Texans, and should give Houston one of the better pass rushes in the game. Combine that with the veteran leadership of Cushing, and this has the makings of an amazing front seven.
The Texans defense should be dominant this season, and they will likely have to be. I just haven’t seen enough from Fitzpatrick in the past to be completely sold on his abilities. The Texans will improve on last year’s mark for sure this season, and it will be the defense that leads the way.
