The Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers play a Saturday preseason game at Heinz Field.
The Bills won their second preseason game over the Carolina Panthers, 20-18. The Bills were much more effective than their game against the New York Giants, turning the ball over only once, throwing for 175 yards and averaging four yards per carry. E.J. Manuel completed nine of 13 pass attempts for 96 yards, while Thaddeus Lewis completed six of 11 passes for 63 yards. Both better performances than what they showed in the first preseason game. Running back Bryce Brown looked sharp by racking up 64 yards on 11 carries. The Bills avoided shooting themselves in the foot throughout the game and finished with 303 total yards. Defensively, the Bills allowed 301 yards, sacked the quarterback three times and produced three turnovers. Randell Johnson had a sack and a tackle for loss.
USA TODAY Sports
The Steelers lost their preseason game to the New York Giants, 20-16. Ben Roethlisberger finished the game with only two pass attempts, while Landry Jones played much of the game with 21 pass attempts and 74 yards. The Steelers spent much of the game tossing the ball around, as they ran 35 passing plays and only rushed the ball 22 times. It’s clear the Steelers are trying to groom their backup quarterbacks in Jones and Bruce Gradkowski. Overall, the Steelers finished with 251 total yards, and you can expect a similar workload with Roethlisberger sitting much of the game on the sidelines. Defensively, the Steelers allowed 312 yards and gave up a touchdown in the final minutes to lose the game. Pitt did force two turnovers and Jarvis Jones picked up the lone sack.
Buffalo could easily be 2-0 in the preseason and I really like the quarterback depth the Bills are rolling with. Pittsburgh is an older team that’s just hoping to stay healthy throughout the preseason and doesn’t care about winning these type of games.
I like the Bills and the points.
