The Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans square off Saturday in a preseason game at Reliant Stadium.
The Falcons beat the Miami Dolphins, 16-10, in their first preseason game. Matt Ryan looked sharp in limited action, completing all seven of his passes for 53 yards. Roddy White caught four passes for 27 yards and the Falcons were able to tack on at least a field goal in each quarter to pull away with the win. T.J. Yates saw much of the backup duty and looked decent, as he threw for 127 yards on 16 pass attempts. Expect much of the same in this matchup. Overall, the Falcons finished the game with 372 total yards and running back Antone Smith had several big runs that were called back because of holding calls. Defensively, the Falcons allowed 229 yards and came away with four tackles for loss. Although it’s important to note that the Dolphins didn’t have their true backup quarterbacks in the game.

The Texans were dominated in their first preseason game, losing to the Arizona Cardinals, 32-0. The Texans completed 11 of 22 pass attempts for just 82 yards and two interceptions. About the only good news for the Texans is that they did average 5.3 yards per carry, and Jonathan Grimes led the team with 39 rushing yards. After such a lousy performance on the offensive end, it’s quite clear the Texans still have no idea who their starting quarterback is going to be, so expect all three guys to get equal reps in hopes of figuring things out. Defensively, the Texans allowed 407 yards and 17 points in the first quarter, alone. The Texans also came away with 10 tackles for loss and Josh Victorian led the team with eight tackles overall.
Maybe a home game will inspire the Texans to perform better after just getting their behind kicked. The Texans should be motivated to improve at both ends of the field and have a good shot to get the victory here.
Give me Houston at home.
