The New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals will square off Saturday in preseason at Paul Brown Stadium.

The Jets won their first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, 13-10. The Jets are in the middle of a quarterback battle with Geno Smith and Michael Vick, and well, neither played extremely well. In fact, the best Jets quarterback was Matt Simms, who completed 13 of 18 pass attempts for 96 yards. Most teams like to a make a quarterback decision after the second preseason game, so expect Smith and Vick to see the field a little more. Overall, the Jets finished the game with 235 yards and scored their lone touchdown on a Chris Johnson run in the second quarter. Defensively, the Jets allowed 222 yards, forcing one turnover and sacking the quarterback three times. David Harris had one sack and a tackle for loss.

The Bengals lost their preseason game to the Kansas City Chiefs, 41-39. The Bengals let it air out in its shootout loss, throwing the ball 31 times and getting a combined four touchdown passes from Jason Campbell and Matt Scott. The Bengals also did a solid job of running the ball, averaging 5.6 yards per carry on 32 touches. Just to be clear, this offensive explosion likely isn’t going to happen again in the preseason, as it was more of a fluky performance. Either way, you can’t be mad at 376 yards considering the starters didn’t play that much. Defensively, the Bengals allowed 304 yards, forced three turnovers and came away with an impressive six sacks.

Both defenses played well in their first preseason game and it’s the one thing that both head coaches have in common. Even though it’s preseason, blitzes are going to be dialed up and guys want to keep the other team out of the end zone.

With defense being the common factor between both squads, I like the under to hit in this game. Expect a game where both teams struggle to score.
