The Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles play a Thursday night preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-1 in preseason action with their first win recently coming over the Buffalo Bills, 19-16. Ben Roethlisberger completed eight of 11 passes in that game for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Expect to see Roethlisberger play even more in this game considering it’s the third preseason matchup. The Steelers didn’t get much out of their running game in the victory, averaging just 1.9 yards per carry and backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski led Pitt with 17 rushing yards. It was really a bizarre offensive performance and you have to believe the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to redeem themselves and get back to the power football. Overall, the Pittsburgh Steelers managed 254 yards and were 1-3 in the red zone. Defensively, the Steelers allowed 358 yards and a score in each quarter. Ryan Shazier led Pitt with 11 tackles and Josh Mauro came away with two sacks.
USA TODAY Sports
The Philadelphia Eagles drop to 0-2 in the preseason after suffering a 42-35 loss to the New England Patriots. The good news is that Nick Foles was much better in his second game, completing eight of 10 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. The bad news is that the Eagles turned the ball over four times, which now gives them eight turnovers in two preseason games. The Eagles did a solid job of running the ball, averaging 4.2 yards per carry, while rookie wide receiver Jordan Matthews topped 100 receiving yards in the losing effort. Overall, the Philadelphia Eagles finished with 413 yards and scored five touchdowns in the first three quarters. Defensively, the Eagles allowed 476 yards and allowed the Pats to score on six of their seven red zone trips. Emmanuel Acho led the Eagles with six tackles and Cary Williams returned an interception for a touchdown.
Maybe this is where the Eagles look more like the Eagles now that it's the third preseason game and the starters will see a bulk of the action. Give me the Eagles to cover the chalk.
