TV:

We’ve got just one more round of preseason games to get through in the NFL, then it’s time for the main course: The 2014 regular season. While we’re waiting on the last of the matchups to materialize, let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are making headlines out there right now. Here’s the latest.

Blount/Bell Discipline: It looks like the boneheaded move from Steelers running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrett Blount has escaped significant punishment, at least at the team level.
Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday that he may end up disciplining his top two running backs after they were busted for marijuana possession last week, but that discipline will not include a suspension. Unless it ends up leaking out, we won’t hear about what exactly that punishment entails, as the club will not make it public.
That’s great news to the dynamic duo in the Steelers backfield, but they’ve still got league punishment to worry about. No word on when that will be handed out; It may take a while.

Injury Notes: There are a lot of bumps and bruises (and worse) going on in the NFL right now, so let’s take a few moments to visit with a few notable injury cases and see what we can determine.

Steven Jackson was able to return to practice yesterday, which is a great sign for the falcons. He’d been sidelined since the beginning of training camp due to a hamstring issue. Jackson shouldn’t be too far off with his conditioning, though.

Jordan Reed sat out the Redskins’ practice session yesterday, thanks to a sprained thumb. The coaching staff remains convinced that he’ll be good to go for the season opener, however.

Jags rookie WR Allen Robinson will not be playing in Thursday’s preseason game against the aforementioned Falcons. He’s got a hamstring issue, and it’s been around four weeks or so since he sustained it.

Chris Conte, who is a notable contributor in the Bears secondary, sustained a concussion in the team’s last preseason game. He was unable to practice yesterday. It’s Conte’s second concussion at the NFL level.

Dee Milliner isn’t running at full speed just yet, which is awful news to the Jets’ depleted secondary. The coaching staff seems to be on the fence at whether or not he’ll play in Week 1.

Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
