The Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills play their last preseason game on Thursday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
The Detroit Lions head into this matchup with a 2-1 record and have really struggled offensively, being held to under 14 points in two of those three games. Those struggles for the Lions will likely continue due to the fact Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush probably won’t participate in this game. That means you’re going to see a lot of Dan Orlovsky and Kellen Moore, a quarterback duo that has been anything but pretty throughout the first few preseason games. Defensively, the Detroit Lions have shown improvement, especially in their last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars where they came up with six sacks and two forced turnovers. Tahir Whitehead led the way with 11 tackles and three sacks in that game.

The Buffalo Bills are 1-3 in the preseason and are also having a hard time putting points on the board. The Bills have scored no more than 20 points in their first four games and were held to 14 points and three turnovers in their most recent game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Turnovers have been an issue for the Bills this entire preseason, as they’ve turned the ball over 10 times in four games. With the lack of production, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills did play EJ Manuel, CJ Spiller and the rest of their starters for a few drives in hopes of snapping out of this funk. Defensively, the Buffalo Bills have shown promise at times, allowing no more than 19 points in three of their first four preseason games.
This matchup could take preseason football to an all-time low of uglyness. Neither team has been all that great and the backup quarterback options are horrible. Usually I would take the points in this situation but I feel like Buffalo will find a way to pull away late and get the cover.
